Lab Week 7: How to Make an Animated GIF in Photoshop

In lab last week we used images from Shutterstock to mock up an animated GIF based on a fictional “family night” event for the yogurt company Mochi. Behold:

You will notice a significant amount of degradation in image quality. GIF files support animation, unlike JPEGs, but they also use indexed color, meaning only 256 colors. Obviously photos have thousands of colors to create the various shades, the result of a GIF being that the images loses quality.

In lab we selected the WordPress Twenty Twelve theme; we then used the image widget to place the animated GIF in the sidebar of our WordPress sites.
