About Kay Tappan
I love typography, cats and my students. I currently teach Social Change Communication and Introduction to Advertising and Public Relations in the Department of Communication at the University of West Florida in Pensacola, FL.
Previously I was a lecturer the Department of Public Relations at the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications. I initially joined the faculty as a visiting lecturer in 2013 to examine the visual communication offerings for students in all disciplines and led the development of the College’s new Sight, Sound, Motion course (VIC 3001). Since 2014 I have taught Public Relations Strategy on the College of Journalism and Communications study abroad program.
The photo above was taken while I was gathering foliage for centerpieces at the FPRA Quiz for a Cause event. I love to sketch, and I love to make GIFs, so, voila. For a tutorial on how to create this effect in Photoshop, check out this blog post.
I’m a member of the Public Relations Society of America and am also a member of the National Millennial Community, an affiliation of students, faculty and industry professionals from across the United States who work to change the conversation about Millennials.
From fall 2013 – spring 2018 I was the faculty adviser for the University of Florida chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America, including Alpha PRoductions, the student-run public relations firm affiliated with UF PRSSA.
I earned my Master of Arts in Mass Communication with a specialization in international communication from the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications in 2011 and won the Outstanding Master’s Student Award that year. Before returning to grad school, I worked for several years in the event planning industry and have public relations experience in the corporate, private and non-profit sectors.
